My main research right now takes place within the European H2020 project MAGIC – Moving towards Adaptive Governance In Complexity: Informing Nexus Security.
This is a project about how to work within complexity, and it is complex itself both in design and in management of the multiple connected layers of inter and trans-disciplinary research.
First, MAGIC focuses on the nexus between water-energy-food and other dimensions such as land uses, climate and the environment. Integrating all these compartments in quantitative models is already a challenge.
Second, quantification of the nexus is framed within a wider framework named Quantitative Story Telling that links qualitative research on perceptions about the nexus, through the concept of narratives, to integrated models that check the desirability, viability and feasibility of those narratives.
Thirdly, MAGIC addresses Quantitative Story Telling from a wider perspective grounded in post-normal science, focusing on the quality of the science for governance process and on improving deliberation with key stakeholders rather than on providing solutions to particular nexus problems.
